Graduations are the highlight of the Imperial year, where friends, families and academic staff come together at our South Kensington Campus and the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate the achievements of our graduating students.
Two graduation days are held each year. Our undergraduate graduation day, Commemoration Day, is held in October, while Postgraduate Graduation takes place in May.
The ceremonies on Commemoration Day and Postgraduate Graduation take place at the Royal Albert Hall, where they have been celebrated for more than 60 years. After the ceremonies graduates and their guests can attend the departmental receptions on the South Kensington Campus thereafter.
Postgraduate Graduation is held in the first week of May each year. Each year, over 3500 Master’s, doctoral and diploma students graduate from Imperial.
The date for the next Postgraduate Graduation will be confirmed shortly. We ask that graduands and their guests do not make any arrangements for graduation until they have received their invitation and registered their attendance.
Commemoration Day takes its name from a visit made by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1945 to mark the centenary of the Royal College of Science, the oldest forerunner to Imperial.
Today, more than 2500 undergraduate students attend Commemoration Day.
