    Gravitational Wave Background Sky Maps from Advanced LIGO O1 Data

    We integrate the publicly available O1 LIGO time-domain data to obtainmaximum-likelihood constraints on the Gravitational Wave Background (GWB)arising from stochastic, persistent signals. Our method produces sky-maps ofthe strain intensity $I$ as a function of direction on the sky at a referencefrequency $f_0$. The data is integrated assuming a set of fixed power-lawspectra for the signal. The maps provide upper limits on the amplitude of theGWB density $\Omega_{\rm GW}(f_0)$ and any anisotropy around the background. Wefind 95\% confidence upper limits of $\Omega_{\rm GW} < 4.8\times 10^{-7}$ at$f_0=50$ Hz with similar constraints on a dipole modulation for theinspiral-dominated stochastic background case.

Note to staff:  Adding new publications to a research group

  1. Log in to Symplectic.
  2. Click on Menu > Create Links
  3. Choose what you want to create links between – in this case ‘Publications’ and ‘Organisational structures’.
  4. Choose the organisational structure (research group) into which you want to link the publications and check the box next to it.
  5. Now check the box of any publication you want to add to that group. You can use the filters to find what you want and select multiple publications if necessary. 
  6. Scroll to the bottom and click the blue ‘Create new link’ button to link them.
  7. The publications will be added to the group, and will be displayed on the group publications feed within 24 hours (it is not immediate).
